Custom Marie Antoinette Party

What a week! Just finished up an entire party for the sweetest customer who adores all things French. She wanted a frilly, girly Marie Antoinette part for her darling daughter who is turning 3. She decided on soft blues, pink, white and grey. I added in touches of sparkle and whimsy, I hope she loves it.

The items she chose were of course a party hat for the Birthday girl, guest hats 4 for boys, 4 for girls- so I had to be sure to tone down the girly for them! She also requested cupcake picks which I found some great graphics for along with centerpiece picks, two banners one to say Happy Birthday and one "Let them Eat Cake". I also whipped up a bonus let them eat cake sign that she can use for her door or as a wall decoration. What a way to let know guest up front what's in store!

I am currently working on some crowns for the big Race for the cure coming up in Washington D.C. in June for the Susan G. Coleman foundation. Last year I made crowns for the top fundraisers- those who brought in $10,000 or more. They have asked me for my help again this year so that is what will be working on in the coming days.

I have also been busy in my garden, this year we decided to do raised beds and follow the square foot gardening book so I am excited to see how that turns out and can't wait to taste the results. The kiddos like getting involved too. Maybe I will be able to get them to eat some new veggies since they helped grow them. Will take some pics of those raised beds later, would love to hear from anyone who does them.

What a month January has been, Jaden starting school, clearing out all the Christmas decorations, catching up on holiday orders and my baby girl turning 4! Priya decided a few months back that she wanted a ballerina party and I wasn't complaining! I had tons of little ballerinas for the store so this would be easy! I had to find her the perfect outfit though, she is quite the princess so I found the most adorable pettiskirt and top set with oodles of pink, baby blue chiffon ruffles.

Due to the nasty weather we had the party was just a few neighbors and visiting holiday company but we had a blast anyway. I found the cutest cupcake tablecloth to bring the party together. I baked a cake and cupcakes, whipped up some pretty pink frosting. For the adults I made lasagna, salad and breadsticks. I think the table turned out cute all dressed up in pink. I do hope her love of pink continues, as of now she is completely in love with all shades of pink and anything girly.

You may notice there is no special party hat in the pictures, everyone ask of course where's her hat? Priya decided she wanted to wear her tiara instead of a hat to match her "tutu" told you she was a bit of a diva! I was ok though, it was her special day and there will be plenty of parties where I whip up a party hat! Everyone had a great day despite the weather, what can be wrong when you have pink cupcakes oh and lasagna?

I hope everyone has survived the holidays and moving on for spring! I do hate to see the decorations go, the house seems naked. Not to worry, Valentines are out and holding their own but nothing beats a Christmas tree! I love hearing from all of you, with comments or emails.

Christmas Goodies

I love this time of year, you can smell hope and cookies in the air. Anywhere with family and friends is the perfect place to be. I took some time over the weekend to invite a few of my kiddos neighborhood friends over to make faux gingerbread houses with graham crackers! This is a fun activity and with kids you can't go wrong with icing, cookies, candy. I started by gluing together some boxes I had, tweaking them a bit to form a house shape. From there you gather up graham crackers to be used as the gingerbread, icing for glue and any candy you can find to decorate with. I also whipped up some simple punch and sugar cookies for them to snack on, house building can be exhausting! Everyone had fun, even the hubs got in on a little houe making and whipped up one with the kids. After all the candy was either on the houses or in their bellies it was time to call it a day and I made a few projects of my own.

I started working on a Christmas wreath made from ooodles of white tulle and dug in my vintage Christmas stash to find goodies like mercury ornaments in pink, silver, glitter bells and I couldn't resist adding in tons of vintage millinery leaves in various shades of pinks! To top off the wreath I took an old Sweetheart doll and whipped her up an oufit from vintage shimmer tulle, gave her some pink feather wings and I was in love! I do have her on the site to purchase though it will be hard to let her go! I love being knee deep in holiday projects from glitter to baking nothing makes me feel more warm inside than sharing and crafting alongside my children. More holiday goodies to come! Fall is finally here and I have been enjoying working in a darker tones, I love living in my pink world but this time of year you get to be a little edgy! I don't usually get to work with altered doll parts, or so much black. It is fun letting my creative juices go into a different direction and create new items like the Halloween inspired soldered charms. I usually work with vintage baby, children's themes and the occassional wedding. My house has been getting spruced up this week as well. I took down my cheery banner with polka dots, pink and mint and in its place went up a banner in true Halloween fashion. I created one with orange and white polka dot paper, vintage sheet music and black strung up on vintage black seam binding in the classic triangle shape. My breakfast nook even got new curtains! I picked up some orange and white polka dot fabric and hung up in my five windows then topped them off with black, orange crepe paper fringe. Our table was treated to a white lace runner atop black fabric and added some vintage Halloween party hats, and nut cups. Just as soon as I started admiring it and feeling accomplished my son reminded that Christmas will soon be here and wanted to know when I would start decorating for that! I am just going to enjoy the season and creating my new goodies! I hope you enjoy the picture of little Priya being a witch! We had to laugh with the pink broom and all! It is fitting for her, such a girly girl!

New Hats at Silver Spoon Scraps

As an artist you always love creating new things. I must create each and every day, it is like air to me. Often once you start a creative business you get in a rut when you must remake the same designs for clients. I put this up there when singers complain of performing the same song 1,000's of times. Though I am not a rock star I can feel their pain! I know what is like to make a masterpiece, to put all your juice into it- you think it's over but no. The life of this masterpiece has just begun, in fact it takes a life of its own. When stores call me up and want x amount of a certain design I am happy- Hey it's a recession and I have a job I love but at the same time my creative self shutters a bit that I don't get to let loose and do something new. I am finishing up a few wholesale orders right now and you can bet my internal artist clock is counting down to start fresh and put my mark on something new. I am dreaming of whimsical Halloween designs ( don't tell anyone but today I sneaked in some time and made a few spooky charms). For now I will share some new Hats, happy creating.

New Puppy

I went and got the new puppy itch similiar to that I want a baby feeling. With two kiddos and a cat we decided our house wasn't a home without a puppy! I did some research and just fell in love with the Old English Sheep Dog. From their irresistable shaggy coat to their need to be in a car I knew it would be a fit. I was lucky to find a breeder not too far from home and off we went to pick up our new family member. Bam Bam was his name given by his breeder and we decided to keep it, even though horse would have fit just as well. He has some personality! I am pretty sure he thinks the kids are sheep and really wants to herd them! We are working on his relationship with the cat (Lazlo) but so far Bam Bam's approach is a little overwhelming for Mr. kitty. Sheep dogs have this clownish hop jump thing when they are playing that the cat just doesn't like. We are on day three and while we love the playful days the nights are hard. He just wants to be close to us and is resisting the crate training. He spends the night whining and whimpering. I am crossing everything that tonight we all get a little more sleep. I am hoping to whip up some new summer designs soon even though it is tempting to just go out and play! The kiddos are home for the summer and I am looking forward to that easy summer living. I have a feeling it will be an adventurous summer for sure even if we never leave our neighborhood.

I am so excited about this news! I will be teaching my first Art Workshop honoring Mothers Day! We have a great Studio in downtown Taylorsville Kentucky- The Sanctuary Arts Center and we have collaborated to offer a mixed media class. I will be teaching how to create a collaged journal for mom. I will be sharing some of my vintage art supplies from millinery flowers, vintage trims & notions and vintage paper. I will demonstrate the basics and allow the class to personalize their journal as a gift for Mom or to take home for themselves. The class will only cost $20.00 with all supplies being provided.

The Arts Center has a gallery featuring local artist and are opening up their upstairs studio space for classes. If any of my fellow bloggers live near Kentucky ( Taylorsville is just a hop/skip from Louisville) to join us! The class will be on Saturday May 9th from 3-5 and tea, refreshments will be served. A fun day for all ages, bring mom, a friend or have a day to yourself! I am hoping this class is a success with many more to follow! There are so many creative souls out there I encourage all of you to reach out to your community and share your talents.

New Spring Desigs, Bunnies and Pink Pretties

I hope the smell of spring has hit you, usually the time change signals it for me! I hate losing that hour of sleep but I also know warmer weather is around the corner. I know I am suppose to be spring cleaning but for me creating is just so much more fun! I prefer spring decorating to the deep cleaning part. I think I will be updating my couches with some new pillow covers made from vintage tablecloths in several rose patterns.

I have been whipping up lots of custom goodies for parties lately and I just had to share! Nothing beats the last of the winter blues better than creating pretties in all the colors of spring. After many months of getting sock monkey request I finally got to do some girly stuff! One set of pics shows a darling new banner style I have been working on with lots of fringe. I made matching party hats and centerpieces for two little girls. The next set of party goodies is a frou frou bunny hat and matching guest hats.

A client contacted me and wanted me to match up her daughters beloved stuffed bunny so I did my best in recreating it for the hat. I even gave the bunny her own hat and gave her a millinery flower bouquet. Enjoy your spring cleaning or creating!

Springing Ahead

I have been MIA for sometime it has been a busy month for my family with the holidays and our Birthdays! Miss Priya just turned 3 and I couldn't be prouder! We are also recovering from a snow and ice storm that has left many without power for two weeks! My heart and prayers are going out to these families and I hope you will keep them in yours as well. It is the bitter cold that makes it so bad. I am thrilled with todays weather and I am hoping this warming trend continues! I am a solar powered gal and I need the sun and warmth to feel like myself.

I have also been creating new items for my website by adding matching items to the party hats. I have been working on cupcake picks, centerpieces, banners and oodles of pretties! I will share pics soon of the new merchandise!

I have been staying busy with wholesale orders and I am happy that these small boutiques are still doing well and choosing to carry my products. I have also been staying current with the new lead laws and beyond thrilled they decided to wait til next year to enforce new testing standards. I know these laws were intended for the big buys and toys produced in China but these laws were about to shut down the handmade industry here in the USA! I thought Silver Spoon Scraps was about to be shut down for a while but this news keeps me in business along with the 1,000's of others who make their living by creating and selling goods for children.

Happy Birthday To Me!

This month is my birthday, besides thinking of getting older I am counting my blessings. I look around and see my children, they are happy and healthy. While we may not have everything we want in our family, we have all we need. I am so thankful that I get to do what I love here at Silver Spoon Scraps. Running a business yourself has its ups and downs but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I make my own rules, hours and sometimes the pay is good! I do it because I love it and that is what matters. I can't think of anything I really need for my birthday, I do have my eye on some antique goodies and always more supplies. I have to tell you I am looking forward to hearing my children sing " happy birthday" more than anything! My daughter is loving the non-stop Christmas music on the radio lately and has really gotten the feel for " Santa claus is coming to town" she really hits a high note on the town part so I am imagining how my Birthday song will be! I love this time of year and I love my family I hope each of you have a wonderful holiday season and Happy Birthday to any of you fellow December babies!

Sock Monkey Hats!

Sock Monkey's are hot.... Again! I received a custom order last week to incorporate a sock monkey into my cupcake party hats. I love a challenge and adore working with new ideas! I decided to make my monkey out of felt and put him atop a crepe paper cupcake! I say what monkey could be sad sitting with all that frosting? My mind has been jumping all day thinking of all the other fun characters I could be creating out of felt so who knows what you might see next?

I love my job have I told you that? I love being part of celebrations nearly every day. How can you not smile when you know you are creating a hat or special keepsake for a celebration. I have so much to be thankful for and despite this crazy world when I get ask to be part of an event by creating a special piece I know the world is not all bad and there is so much good out there. People are still having parties, babies are being born, people are joining their lives together and my heart is full. Whatever you do take a minute to be thankful for all you have and don't forget

to smile. Don't give up and don't let the news get you down.

Halloween Projects

I have been away tooo long my blog friends! I hope you did not give up and forget about me, rest assured I have been thinking of you! I have been traveling and busy with the new bedding line. I am in the process of working on my business plan and trying to find Angel investors who would be a good match for Silver Spoon Scraps. The business side of my job isn't so much fun so I have tried to take a few breaks by creating some new Halloween goodies and of course fueling up with ice cream. Ice cream is an essential component to writing a well rounded business plan I am told. Feel free to do your own research.

I love this time of year when the air has a slight nip, the leaves begin to turn and the stores are filled with spooky treats. Don't forget the overload of fall festivals to enjoy! My family loves getting out and sampling the fares. I have never met a caramel apple I didn't like or a fried pastry of any kind.

Why does this post seem to have a food theme? I guess fall brings out the baker/taster in me. My town will host two festivals this month and the kiddos are thrilled. Last weekend we did the Kentucky Heritage festival where there were FAB local artist and a grand opening of the Art Sanctuary. I think I will try and set up next year. We will also attend the fall festival next weekend where I hope to find some pumpkins for fall decorating. I love buying local and supporting our farmers who work so hard.

It has been a while since my last post, I know I have good reasons though! I have been working on new projects, spending time with the kiddos, and trying to get organized for the show. Which is no easy task when you are me! I am a bit of a sloppy gal when it comes to my supplies I must admit. So the office has gotten some much needed attention, though my paperwork pile is just as high!

Now for the juicy bit..... Three of my products were featured in the new Romantic Homes Bed and Bath special Issue!They featured our Vintage Baby Girl Scrapbook, Our vintage inspired baby boy nursery wall hanging and our breakfast, lunch and dinner embroidered bib set! All items are on sale on my site with a special discount! I want to say thank you to the editors for including my products. This is a lovely magazine with tons of great decorating tips, yummy bedroom photos and they included some darling nurseries this time around! I am just tickled to be in there and I love kids rooms tips and just know you all will love it too!

She started with a vintage dress me doll from the 50's and I made her into a cone base, her secret is she doubles as a tree topper! Can't you just picture her atop your grand girly Christmas tree! Her dress features vintage fabrics and trims along with a scrumptious rose trim that makes her skirt. She is oodles and oodles of pink! I also created the matching box( included with her) with darling vintage ribbons, millinery flowers where she will proudly stand and make sure your room meets its whimsy quota! Thank you to all who left so many kind comments about my Atlanta Gift Show Market Trip! You all made my week. I have been super busy filling orders and preparing for yet another show! I thought it wouldn't happen but I finally got into the ABC Show in Las Vegas which is a private trade show for juvenile products. I will be taking along my baby bedding and keeping my fingers crossed! I have to thank several of the gals of MMP for helping me make this happen.

Make Mine Pink is doing their Pink Fridays again and this Friday is one I get to participate in, each week they do a themed shopping expereince and so far I haven't had to many products but this week is Nifty Nurseries so I have may have a thing or two!

I am going to share with you some of my newest creations I made just for this event. I found these darling stork scraps and had to use them this week so I came up with- The stork is coming paper crowns made from vintage sheet music.

I also want to take a minute and plug some info about the MMP first annual retreat, it will be a great opportunity for anyone who has a small business already or maybe is thinking about it. I am not sure yet if I will be able to attend, my September is filling up and my son is starting school this year so we will see! I cannot believe he will be leaving me everyday, I have always been home with my babies so I am sure I will be crying and he will be jumping for joy! This has been a big year for changes in my family with me working more and traveling and now school. To Market, To Market

Wow What a Week! As some of you know this past week was my first trip ever to the Atlanta Gift Show. I went as a vendor debuting my new baby bedding line and bringing along my party hats. It was such a whirlwind week, between traveling, setting up and talking my voice out! Not to mention meeting some super sweet people along the way. The other vendors were super and oh so helpful. I learned sooo much from just being there and listening to their experiences and advice. I went to get some exposure for my baby bedding line which is of course all vintage inspired, I have been working so long on bringing this all together and it was nice to finally share it and get some feedback. Do tell me what you think!

I also had the pleasure of meeting Janet of Shabby FuFu! She came to market to stock her lovely website. She is a beautiful lady and her Hubby was her sidekick for the show. They are a wonderful couple and she is someone I definately admire. She has created a booming site and tons of admiring fans of her style.

On Monday my plans to meet Jenn of Eye Candy Creations http://www.sweeteyecandycreations.typepad.com/ came about, oh what a darling! She came to the show to meet me and got to see my little booth then she whisk me away to a FAB dinner. We had lots to talk about both being crafty gals and mommies! I enjoyed her company sooo much and it was a nice way to end my time spent in Atlanta. She made my time away more enjoyable and I think we could have talked all night! Don't you love the pic of Jenn and Me? Our outfits were so similiar and we have never met before! You can tell I look exhausted, being on your feet all day selling your products is no easy task. I am currently recouping at home well sort of my glue gun is in overdrive again!

I made some wonderful contacts and of course I am up to my eyeballs in party hats it is a party hat party around here with crepe paper a flying! I missed my family terribly why I was away and got a taste of traveling. It would have been so nice if they could have come along and been there at the end of the day. I am happy to be home and back in my own bed and chatting with so many of you. I enjoyed my first trip to market and hopefully this won't be my last show, who knows where I will end up next! I couldn't believe the shopping there, so much to see and buy! Thank you to all of you who have sent me well wishes and helped in any way. This past week has been busy but I also got a little fun time in! I was asked to complete a vintage themed scrapbook for Angelina of Angelina's Cards well her son Elliot actually! She wanted a little something special for her darling son since he made his All star team! I went right to work and created a book for him with a chipboard cover which I painted and distressed to match his team color and to resemble the worn look of a worn catchers mitt. Inside I added Elliot's pictures and a few vintage goodies, Angelina emailed me some great finds too. I hope you enjoy and get some inspiration for your next project! I love doing custom work like this and I am currently working on a vintage themed military scrapbook I will share that with you sweets as soon as I finish which needs to be yesterday!

Ok this weekend was also my 10 year high school reunion!( thats why you are listening to a few tunes from 98') I can't believe it snuck up on me. I wasn't going to attend due to my schedule but the last minute I loaded up the kids and back to my hometown we went. I dropped the kids off with their Mimi ( my hubby's mother) she was thrilled to see them since we live away and then off to the reunion. I was so excited to see some of my old friends we never get to hang out with jobs, kids and just life I know you know how that is. It was odd not having the kids and actually getting to finish a sentence and not taking anyone to the potty!

A few of my high school BF's were there and catching up with them was just the boost I needed to get through the coming weeks with last minute preparations for Market. It has been all work no play for sometime now. We of course laughed about way back when stories including some bad hair and outfit choices, danced a little, shared photos of the kiddos and chatted the night away! My BFF Jess just got engaged so that was an exciting topic. She has ask for some planning help and I am looking forward to that. She loves vintage and wants to add a little whimsy instead of the usual wedding stuff. I am sooo looking forward to this! I can really sink my teeth into that job!

Last but not least I am sharing a photo of a gorgeous night last week, my view from our porch is that of an old farm and the silo was just gorgeous surrounded in the pink skies! My son loves the silo and insist on asking us to build one. You see we grew a small garden this year but to him it's our farm and evidently a farm just cannot be without a silo? He has also insisted on chickens for fresh eggs, this coming from the boy who checks out almost every egg carton at the grocery for baby chicks. I am trying to explain the process but he just tells me one day he will find a chick in the carton!

Retro Birthday Crown

Wow I have been really lazy about posting, well it wasn't on purpose! I have been super busy. Just got back in town from a wedding my SIL and we were gone for a week only to find when we get home we must leave again for a funeral. It has been a whirlwind two weeks to say the least. So I am making up for lost time by getting my butt in gear and whipping up some new goodies for my site. It seems everyone wants a cupcake hat so along with some new party hats I have gone paper crown crazy! I just cannot get enough! Plus they are sooo fun to display until they find a new home! I am trying to burn through some of my paper stash and make more one of a kind creations to list. I love custom work too so don't get me wrong, it just seems my studio has been over run with paper and now is spilling into other rooms and tables in home. My poor children wouldn't know what a real table top looked like. Not to mention my husband. He is kind about it though, I think he has just accepted my paper addiction.

I hope everyone out there is enjoying this lovely summer weather, I went out the other day with my kiddos and got burned. Yes me! I have a nice natural tan complexion but since I haven't really been out in the sun in years I was red and peeling. It was a little embarrassing but my husband assures me a little vinegar and I will be fine. Wow I am really painting a pretty picture with my words today, you now know my secret addiction and how it is invading my home and now you can picture the smell of vinegar swirling around!!! Ok maybe I should talk about the lovely wedding.

My SIL- Husbands sister was married Saturday my son was the ring bearer and it was interesting to say the least! He did a lovely job of carrying the pillow but once he was upfront he just couldn't stand still. He was bending over, kicking the wall to a beat only in his head, dancing around etc. My SIL was gracious and I don't think she even noticed but I sure did it may be the last time someone ask us to be involved with a wedding. My daughter got a kick out of pointing out all the people up front, she was in need of a nap but at least she was quiet! I will leave you with some pics of my creations.

I hope you all are enjoying this long weekend, I had a pretty good one. Saturday on the way to the park there was a few yardsales where I snagged up a white chenille for $0.50!!!!! That made my day then when I got home I was so excited because there was a package for me ( I knew It was coming but still) It was a lot of vintage cupcake/cake decorating items I had won from ebay you know how sometimes you win, sometimes you lose on ebay this time I WON!!!!!!

When I bid I was a skeptic because the listing had one lousy photo and not very good description but it was like $8.00 for a large lot that was to include cupcake/cake items for baby, Birthday and a few ballerinas. When I opened the box there was a big ole' bag of vintage ballerinas! I also found tucked in some tissue an old wedding cake topper with millinery flowers atop! I told my husband this was the mother load. There were other goodies too so I will have plenty of supplies and inspiration for some new projects!

My mama's Birthday is next week so I also started working on her a crown that says Birthday Queen and of course I used one of my ballerinas! I hope she loves it, I will have to ship this present I do wish we could be together for her special day I may try to surprise her haven't figured out the details yet. She always made me the nicest Birthday cakes growing up no matter what we had cake! My favorite was a cake she made with raspberries and she made the icing with raspberries and cream cheese YUMMO!

With all this kitchy goodness I had to share a few pics of my own kitchy kitchen, I hope you enjoy I warn you there is alot of pink and alot of whimsy! This isn't your average stuffy kitchen no not here, you will find traces of powdered sugar, a few too many cake plates, sippy cups and my pink mixer. My vintage stove and pink mixer tie for my favorites, my stove isn't energy efficient I am sure but that thing means business. I saw a new tv commercial about a new stove top that boils water in 90 seconds I guarantee mine beats that! You don't have to go above a 3 to boil or fry on my stove. This can be good or bad depending on who is cooking here, guest usually won't brave it! I am used to it now but newbies always want to crank it up to 10 and I think that might melt my house! Show and tell Monday

I am a member of Make Mine Pink and the gals have decided to do a show and tell Monday which is a fun way to catch up on what we have been doing and creating! I had a wonderful weekend one of my old friends came for lunch on Sunday so my husband and I cleaned for a day before and of course my kids were behind us making messes! The house wasn't perfect but I focused more on lunch. I made BBQ ribs, white corn, honey rolls, my special dill tater' salad and Strawberry Cake. I am a huge Paula Deen and she had a new recipe for Strawberry cake with strawberry cream cheese icing. It was yummy, nothing beats a homemade cake especially when it's a pink cake! Oh I almost forgot I made some strawberry lemonade for us to drink with lots of fresh fruit inside the pitcher.

I also finished up a few projects I had been working on. I have been trying for a few weeks to complete some projects you know the ones you start and abandon after you get swamped! I love working with paper but sometimes I get too caught up with my site and custom work and don't get to finish my projects. I have been loving crowns since I made mine for the MMP contest and wanted to try a paper crown. I have made the metal ones but wanted something less time consuming for fun. So here it is hope you enjoy, I used a funky hot pink and black paper and embellished with pink and black crepe paper fringe and added a rosette on top!

Ok I am also going to tell you how to make the yummy strawberry lemon/lime drink I made for my friends, this is for two pitchers I made one in my fancy glass one for the table and put the reserve pitcher in the fridge for later!

You will need

2 pitchers

1 frozen lemonade concentrate

1 frozen limeade concentrate

1 container frozen strawberries

4 lemons

4 limes

2 cups of simple syrup

fresh strawberries for garnish if you desire, looks great on the glasses when the berries are sliced in half, half way through.

Divide up the frozen strawberries half in each pitcher, next divide up half of each lemonade and limeade concentrate in each pitcher. You will then want to pour 1 cup of your simple syrup in each pitcher ( more of less if you want it sweeter or if you like it on the sour side) Fill up each of your pitchers with water then whisk your mixture together. You will then want to put 2 limes and 2 lemons sliced up in each pitcher. Pour over ice in your glasses garnished with your strawberries. This will wet your whistle on a hot day, sooo refreshing oh and if you are watching your sugar try splenda instead of the simple syrup taste great!

Breakfast Nook

Ok I finally decided to share some photos of my house! It is a mess and I am sad to say we haven't completely decorated yet but it was a lovely weekend and I unpacked a few boxes from the garage and found some of my goodies I have been missing like these plates! I decided to hang above our dining nook.

The curtains in our nook are vintage pillow case panels purchased as new old stock, they were never used as intended and when I came across them I knew I had the perfect spot for them. There were two pink, two mint and one lavender so I just clipped them up on rods and voila curtains!

The rest of my house may need some attention but I am pleased to have completed this little project this weekend.

Scrapbooking Memories

Wanted to share a project with you, its a scrapbook dedicated to all things vintage girly! What could be more FAB! I have a boy and girl but I cannot lie I just love pink, throw in some vintage and you have me. I do love creating vintage boy trinkets especially since I know what a rarity they are. This post though is all about pink.

I started with a blank chipboard front and bank, painted, distressed and assembled. I then went to work on the interior pages by adding paper bag pages. The pages can hardly be seen once I added my cardstock. I love pulling out the sewing machine for these books, I sew first on my cardstock then attach that page to the paperbag page. I probably couldn't sew through the paper bag and my sewing machine has been good to me so I won't test it. She gets a little irritated when I experiment.

Each page has its own layout and includes lots of movable goodies like vintage photos and greetings. I also add vintage ribbon and lace. The great thing is each paper bag page acts as a big ole pocket for more storage of extra photos that didn't make it on the page or other memorabilia you want to keep from that special day.

I just finished a book like this with a vintage school theme which was a wonderful project to work on. It was for a teacher who has about 30+ years in! She loved vintage school photos and wanted a place to put her memories and years of memorabilia into.

Cupcake Hats!

I have been having so much fun making these hats and they have turned out to be some of my best sellers. I thought though for all those upcoming parties I needed something new so I am debuting the Cupcake Hat! I had some yummy vintage brown crepe paper that I love working with, the texture is so different from new crepe paper and I knew it would be perfect for the cupcake base. I hope people love these, I can do them in most any color combination, and I am still playing around with sprinkle options and toppings.

I am showing the pink but as a momma of a lil' boy you know I will be offering them in blue and about any other color you can dream up! This really started out of the need for a special hat for my daughters 1st Birthday, I wanted something a lil' whimsical, part vintage for her photos so I made her one with vintage chenille. I hope you will follow your own creative path to see where it leads, you never know where your next "big" idea willl come from!

New Site, Guest Artist!

Hey bloggers I have some wonderful news along with the new site changes I have decided to have a few guest artist. I called upon my friend from Make Mine Pink after seeing her charms in person in Chicago. Lori Avery from http://www.katiesrosecottage.com/ She is not only a FAB artist but a sweetie in person. We shared a house together when the girls of MMP went to Chicago for Country Livings Women of the year Event.

She makes the most amazing charms from vintage images and sheet music, but I knew she could do something special for Silver Spoon Scraps. I sent her some of my favorite vintage baby images that I use in my scrapbooks and cards and this is what she has come up with! I am so excited , I just cannot wait to have them in my hands and on the site. I have to tell you though it is going to be hard parting with them! Hello Bloggers, seems spring has sprung and there is new life everywhere from flowers to birds nest abound. I love spring, it is hopefull, bountiful. I hope you and yours are enjoying these warmer and longer days or like me having a hard time putting the kids to bed when their bedtime is still in the daylight hours!

Silver Spoon Scraps has been busy at making some new things, our first newbie is a set of notecards featuring one of our all time favorite vintage images. I hope you will keep us in mind this spring as you welcome those prescious new babies. We have been having fun creating our diaper cakes especially the minis! As budgets get tighter you will find our diaper cakes a great alternative to other decorations as they are not only lovely but practical. The new parents will have tons of new diapers to use and they make lovely centerpieces at the shower.

Haven't posted in a while I know! I have been up to my eyeballs playing catch up after our trip to Chicago for the Country Living Event. The Make Mine Pink Gals had a blast, many pitched their product. The speakers were informative, and to top it all off I got to meet Anna Griffin. She is just lovely in person. A real Southern Belle, so down to earth. She had such good tips for all of us in business and shared how she got her start.

I have so many ideas cookin' I don't know where to begin. I do need to focus on taking Silver Spoon scraps to the next level and being all I can be as a business owner. Stay tuned for updates, new creations and lots of energy!

I am sharing some of the photos from our Chicago trip, ( on top photo, right is me!) hope you all had a great Easter weekend. My kids had a blast coloring eggs, we even did the shrink wrap on a few- do you remember doing that? Til next time.......

It has been a crazy weekend here, we were about snowed in- well we got about a foot a little more in drifts. It was exciting because the kids had never seen so much snow, we went out and played and the kids just didn't want to come back inside. Since the weather wasn't great for going anywhere it gave me some time to focus on some new projects. I finished my big order of mini diaper cakes then I started working on some new party hats. I did several different styles all for boys. I usually get so caught up in pink and thought I would try to focus on boy stuff! I made some darling hats one with a train, a lil vintage cowboy and one little boy with his airplan. I love the old vintage graphics from childrens cards of the 1940's- 1950's I then embellished them with glitter and my crepe paper fringe. I have also been matching the hats to other party needs like centerpieces, favors, and invites. I have them listed on my site and my etsy.

As a member of Make Mine Pink I have to promote just a little bit all the wonderful talented women there and the founder Joyce Lucas. Joyce has been named one of Country Living Magazines women entrepreneurs of the year and in March many MMP members will attend the big event in Chicago. We are so lucky to have her, she is so willing to share her experiences and keeps us on our toes, she watches out for us and is always available if we need one on one help. Seeking Spring

I am so ready for spring, summer-just some sun and warmth would be nice! The good thing about all this wintry weather is it gives me plenty of time indoors to complete projects. Something about those sunny days though that fills me with inspiration. Most recently I have been working on Easter tag books made from envelopes and vintage Easter graphics. You can find them on my site www.silverspoonscraps.com I am also working on a some new scrapbook themes- vintage wedding, and a boy book. I make so many girly and pink books and I have promised several customers to start making some boy books! One very important customer is my son well he's more a critic than a paying customer and he swears to hate pink! So my goal and promise to him is to make more boy stuff. It is Monday and a new week begins, This week I am going to work on new designs some fancy little nut cups and work on my new Valentine scrapbooks. I am doing two scrapbooks for the season one featuring vintage valentines for children from the 1940's-1950's then another one with a more romantic theme that will have lovely Victorian images. This time of year is so much fun and really allows me to do what I love and be as girly and glittery as I want! It is no time for restraint!!!!

If Valentines Day has lost some meaning for you I suggest finding a display area on your counter, table or dresser and fill it with your favorite romantic items. Pull out those photos or pieces that bring back sweet memories and display them and add a few new pieces while you are at it. Displays are a great way to show off the things you are passionate about but perhaps don't fit in with your everyday style I know many people who don't like clutter or go more modern throughout the year can take this time to bring out those little knick knacks! Crowning Glory!

Today is Friday and I have been busy working on a custom order for a member of MMP she wanted some special goodies to celebrate her daughters birthday and I came up with a darling crown. It has been a labor of love and I used some of my vintage crepe paper stash, a two-toned crepe paper that was used to make flowers from the 20's! It was dreamy, I will be taking custom orders for these and I can make them in almost any color as long as I have or can find the materials the sky is the limit. I hope you enjoy the pics.

Its Monday blog friends but for some reason I am still feeling great today! I am starting my day working on orders and new ideas and its the first day of my diet! EEEEK!!!!!!! I want to look my best or the best I can be after two babies for the Country Living event in March. I belong to Make Mine Pink besides my own website and so many of my pink sisters are going and I had to meet them! This new year is like a fresh start and I hope to increase business and keep the creativity coming. I truly adore creating and I would be lost without it I have been doing it most of my life and I love when my mom finds my earliest works like a pop-up card from when I was 4! It must have been my calling. Sunny Sunday

Hello to my readers today I am creating and working on an order for several scrapbooks, seems they do best no matter what else I come up with! I love working with paper though so versatile and seems like an endless supply of pretty paper out there to be had and of course the vintage paper when you are lucky enough to snatch some up! I really just adore vintage graphics as you can tell I don't know what it is for sure that draws me in I think its a number of things from the nastalgic feel you get, to the sweet coloring, and that they are from simplier times. Sometime I wish we were in simplier times as much as I love technology like this computer which allows me to blog and share my story I wonder how life would be without so much stuff! and while computers are nice they really stink when they crash!!!! I am trying to mesh old with new in my home and how I raise my children I don't like a tv in every room or computer and I like to play games with my children and do activities that don't revolve around television. I love to hear them laugh and play that is a beautiful sound that tv just can't compete with. New Year, New Plan

So its the new year officially and of course we all start to make our list what will we change what will we do differently how much weight to lose, blah blah blah. This year I am thinking big I really want to devote more time to my business and streamline how I run things for my work and home which is no easy task with two small children under foot! I know so many other women are trying to balance the same things I think for me I really need to create a schedule and stick to it. I am going to devote blocks of time for tasks and see how that works instead of trying to fit everything together. I am often wrangling kids, fixing lunch, glue gun in hand and checking emails so this year I am going to try new ideas for home and business. I have so many new ideas its hard to contain them all! Heres to an organized crafty 2008! To all of you I wish you blessings for the new year and feel free to share your ideas for organization of stuff as well as time I need all the help I can get. My talents are being crafty and thats where it stops!

So Little Time So Much Fun!

Ok its so close to Christmas and I know I should be cleaning today but I was so excited last night about my daughters upcoming 2nd Birthday( Jan 3) I just had to start working on a special creation for her. I have had this idea swirling around and finally got to create it! I love crepe paper and how versatile it is and the effect it gives is like no other. So here is my latest creation for Priya I am going to be doing special orders for similiar ones on my etsy shop and probably will put some on my website as well. I had to make a hat for her too I still think it needs a number 2 on it so its not 100% complete yet but whatever is around here! I really believe you can't have enough, over the top is beautiful!!!!!!!! Less is never more in my book. I am looking forward to spring and working on projects for weddings/showers etc. I can't get enough of girly, frilly stuff. Our tree this year has a pink theme with all the vintage glass ornaments and some handmade ones with a victorian look!

My yummy pink wreathe creation! I want to leave it up all year, my husband said it doesn't really look like Christmas- Oh well you can't win'em all!!!!!!

My tabletop tree which my kids can't leave alone not to mention the cat!

This is my first blog and I decided to start over the holidays! I love Christmas and all the crafting, cooking ( not so much the cleaning) and seeing how my children react as well, you cannot put a price on building a gingerbread house or watching your children watch a first snow or how their eyes dance around ornaments on a tree. I stay at home and run my little shop Silver Spoon Scraps- http://www.silverspoonscraps.com/ I am having so much fun doing what I love, crafting my heart out. There isn't anything else I would rather do it really makes me feel like a kid again to be surrounded by glitter, glue, ribbons and lots and lots of pretty paper! It is my dream come true to create and share with people what I have been doing most of my life.

This week I am having company come my Husbands family and I am excited my sister-in-law and I are two crafty gals and together who knows what may happen! I have been trying to get our house company ready and I am still planning the menus. We just completed our house a few months ago so it still has a way to go on personalization, most walls are white which I love but walls are still bare I need to unpack all my goodies and get them up. We have always lived in historic homes so this is new for us. I love Victorian homes and the whole lifestyle. I try to bring that craftmanship and whimsy into my work I am drawn to the graphics from Victorian until midcentury and anything pink! Well I am off to cleaning and decorating I will leave you with a few picks until next time.
